Anaheim: Officers Save Man From Fiery Big Rig Crash
09.13.2019 | 12:47 AM | ANAHEIM – A truck driver was rescued by California Highway Patrol officers after becoming trapped in the cab of a big rig after a fiery crash, early Friday morning.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol’s Santa Fe Springs Office were returning to their jurisdiction when they happened upon a big rig that had crashed and was catching fire on the northbound I-5 Freeway near Lincoln Avenue around 12:47 AM.
The officers quickly determined that the truck’s driver was trapped inside the cab of the big rig that was quickly catching fire and began efforts to free him.
Risking their own lives the officers successfully freed the trapped man who was later transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
Firefighters arriving on scene doused the fire and achieved knockdown within 20 minutes.
The truck, which was hauling produce, sent debris across the roadway prompting the closure of multiple lanes into the afternoon.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
