Ambulance Transporting Patient Catches Fire on the I-15

LOCATION: SB I-15 2 Carrol Canyon exit

DETAILS:

1. An Escondido Fire Dept ambulance was transporting a child to Rady Children’s Hospital along with his father after they were involved in an accident earlier in the morning in the City of Escondido.
2. As the Paramedics were driving south on the I-15, they noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment.
3. As the smoke worsened, they pulled over to the right shoulder.
4. The engine soon caught fire, and the Paramedics evacuated the patient and his father from the ambulance.
5. When SDFD firefighters arrived, the front section of the ambulance was fully involved in flames.
6. No one was injured in the fire.
