Abandoned Apartment Complex Goes Up In Flames

INCIDENT DATE/TIME:  1005pm 9-29-25
LOCATION: 9607 Riddlewood
AREA/CITY: Houston
DETAILS:

1. HPD located an apartment building on fire, and requested dispatch to notify HFD
2. HFD responded and per District chief 21 off camera, they could see the fire almost immediately as they left the station
3. HFD went defensive almost immediately, getting 2 aerials and a deck gun in use to protect the new 3 story residences just south of the fire
4. It took about 1 hour to get the bulk of the flames under control
5. No reports of any residents on the property, as it is abandoned, but squatters have been there in the past
6. 1 firefighter sustained heat exhaustion, and was transported as a precaution
7. Cause and origin are under investigation, as mop up on the hot spots continues
