INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 5-10-25 1:58 AM
LOCATION: 2895 N. State Street
AREA/CITY: Muscoy
DETAILS:

  1. MUSCOY, CA – Early May 10th, San Bernardino County Fire crews responded to a deadly residential structure fire on the 2800 block of N. State Street in Muscoy. Just before 2 a.m., dispatchers received multiple reports of a house and back yard on fire. The first arriving engine company reported heavy smoke and flames coming from behind a single-story, single-family home. Firefighters quickly advanced hose lines to the rear of the property, where they encountered intense fire conditions involving multiple sheds, vehicles, and surrounding debris. Upon arrival, firefighters were informed that an elderly male lived in an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) at the rear of the property. Due to heavy fire engulfing the ADU, crews were initially unable to conduct a search. Once the fire was knocked down, crews discovered the body of a 92-year-old male inside. Sadly, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. A total of six engine companies, one truck company, one battalion chief, and one fire investigator responded to the incident, totaling 24 personnel. Fire crews used a combination of hose lines and coordinated tactics to control the fire, including deploying hand lines to the rear and interior of the main residence and cutting a ventilation hole. However, truck company crews had to retreat from their position on the roof, and operations were adjusted due to the structure’s construction and fire intensity. Firefighters successfully contained the fire without any injuries to personnel. The estimated property damage is approximately $350,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Fire Office of the Fire Marshal in coordination with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. San Bernardino County Fire reminds all residents of the importance of having working smoke alarms in every living space, especially in detached units such as ADUs. These alarms are critical in providing early warning and saving lives.
