79 Year-Old Man Killed in Car Jacking

On Monday, May 12, 2025, at 12:22 p.m., deputies from the Norco Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a business in the 600 block of Hidden Valley Parkway, Norco, regarding a carjacking. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with witnesses, reviewed video surveillance, and provided information to surrounding law enforcement agencies regarding the carjacking of a silver SUV.

During the investigation, officers from the Corona Police Department advised that they had located an adult male suffering from traumatic injuries consistent with being ejected from a vehicle. The male was located on Hidden Valley Parkway east of the initial incident and transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The victim was identified as 79-year-old James Norman, a resident of Corona. Investigators determined Norman was the victim of the carjacking and died as a result of the injuries he suffered during the incident.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. During the investigation, the victim’s SUV was located unoccupied near the intersection of Polk Street and Magnolia Avenue in the city of Riverside. Investigators began working closely with members of the Riverside Police Department and ultimately detained a male near the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Tyler Street.

After further investigation, investigators identified 29-year-old Ryan Hewitt, a resident of Corona, as the suspect in the carjacking. Hewitt was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for carjacking and murder.

This case is active and ongoing. No additional suspects are believed to be involved, and no further information will be released at this time.
