5 Suspicious Fires Along the I-805 & Hwy 54 | National City

09.23.2021 | 9:33 PM | NATIONAL CITY – Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire along the right shoulder of the southbound I-805. This fire burned approx a 1/4 acre before it was put out. A few minutes after the first fire began, up to 4 more fires started along the westbound SR-54. Each fire appeared to have started below the highway and work its way up to the roadway. The fire stretched for approx. 200 yards. Firefighters responded and put the fires out. Employees for the LA Fitness attempted to stop the fire with water hoses and extinguishers as the fire was burning towards the business. Westbound Hwy 54 and the transition ramp from the southbound I-805 to the westbound SR-54 was backed up and slowed. All of the fires are considered suspicious and will be under investigation.
