4 People Transported After Major Injury Head-On Collision

DETAILS:
- The U.S, Border Patrol became interested in a black Mercedes vehicle that was in an area known for load vehicles picking up illegal immigrants.
- As the Mercedes started driving westbound on Otay Mesa from Alta Rd, the Border Patrol Agents attempted to catch up with the driver of the Mercedes.
- The Mercedes suddenly sped away, and as they approached SR-125, the driver suddenly went up and onto the center median and continued to drive on it.
- The driver then came down into the eastbound traffic and went head-on into the female driver of a KIA.
- The impact was major, and both vehicles spun around and sent debris flying.
- 1st Responders arrived and started to extricate the victims.
- One female victim took approximately 1 hour or more to extricate from the wreckage.
- The CalFire Battalion Fire Chief stated that there were 2 moderate injuries and 2 minor injuries, but the SDPD stated that there were 2 major injuries and 2 minor injuries. One female had a broken femur.
- Eastbound Otay Mesa Rd is closed to all traffic pending the SDPD investigation.
