Wrong-Way Driver Causes Fatal Head-On Crash on I-215 in Riverside

FATAL CRASH ON I-215 SOUTHBOUND NORTH OF CENTRAL
AVENUE

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – On January 14, 2026, at approximately 12:18 AM, CHP Riverside units
received a call of a silver Mitsubishi Galant traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of
I-215 near Cactus Avenue. The Mitsubishi continued wrong way on southbound I-215 as CHP
units attempted to locate the Mitsubishi. The Mitsubishi continued wrong way in southbound
lanes with several misses with other vehicles. As the Mitsubishi passed Central Avenue, it was
involved in a head on crash with a silver Toyota Camry. The driver of the Toyota suffered fatal
injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by fire personnel. The
driver of the Mitsubishi, a 20-year-old resident of Moreno Valley, suffered major injuries and
was transported to a local hospital. Alcohol/ Drugs appear to be a factor in this crash.
