Man With Rifle Barricaded Shot by LAPD

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – An armed suspect who engaged in a standoff with Los Angeles Police Department officers during a barricade was in the hospital Thursday after being shot by the officers in the Vermont-Slauson neighborhood during an hourslong standoff, the LAPD reported Thursday.
Officers from the LAPD’s 77th Division responded at around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday to a radio call regarding a man with a rifle who was allegedly pointing it at passersby in the 6400 block of Figueroa Street and 64th Street, the LAPD reported. The suspect refused to comply with the officers’ commands and barricaded himself in a second-floor apartment.
SWAT officers responded to the scene, where they asked the suspect to leave the apartment and shortly afterward the suspect was shot by the officers, police said.
The suspect taken into custody after 1:30 a.m. Thursday and later taken to a hospital, where he was treated for gunshot wounds and is listed in stable condition, the LAPD said.
No officers injured during the standoff.
The area of Figueroa Street from Gage Avenue to 67th Street will be closed for several hours while police investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, according to the LAPD.
