INCIDENT DATE/TIME
: 4.23.25 | 1:36 AM
LOCATION: 13514 Telegraph Road
AREA/CITY: South Whittier
DETAILS:

WHITTIER (CNS) – An attempted robbery at a Whittier-area marijuana dispensary early Wednesday led to a shooting that apparently left a man dead and two suspects at large.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called at 1:37 a.m. Wednesday to the dispensary in the 13500 block of Telegraph Road, between Mills Avenue and Carmenita Road near Whittier.

According to the sheriff’s department, three armed suspects went into the dispensary and were apparently met by two security guards, at least one of whom opened fire. It was unclear if the suspects fired any shots, homicide Lt. Steven De Jong told reporters at the scene.

The robbery suspects fled the location in a vehicle, and about 20 minutes later, a man suffering from gunshot wounds was dropped off at a Whittier hospital, sheriff’s officials said. That person, described only as a 32-year-old man, was then taken to another hospital, where he died.

His name was not immediately released.

No arrests were reported.

Anyone with information regarding this shooting was asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can call 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.

Note: The security guards can be seen at 2:39 in video. The ‘Possible’ suspect is seen being transported at 0:24.

Original 3 AM Write Up:

  1. Here’s what we know – Norwalk LASD was called around 1:36 AM to the area regarding 5-6 shots heard in the neighborhood
  2. Around 1:39 AM, an additional call was received regarding a robbery occurring at the location with shots being fired
  3. Three males wearing hoodies armed with semi automatic handguns stormed into the location in an attempt to rob the business
  4. Sheriff’s confirm over radio that the robbery was not successful, and that all three fled in a Nissan sedan east on Telegraph
  5. Around 2:14 AM, LA County FD was called to PIH Hospital in Whittier to meet with Norwalk LASD who was PRESUMABLY out with a robbery suspect who has been shot and was dropped off at the hospital. Armed security was seen at the dispensary clinic and it appears they opened fire on the suspects. This information has not been confirmed due to partial radio encryption enabled by LASD.
  6. The presumed suspect was transferred by ambulance from PIH Whittier to a trauma center with a squad car following behind
  7. Back at the clinic, deputies cordoned off the business and were seen documenting the scene and taking pictures of bullet marks on a nearby wall immediately facing the store front door, indicating shots were being fired from within the business outward. Multiple security guards were seen standing nearby.
  8. It is important to note that this was never once considered to be an assault with a deadly weapon over the radio (the radio crime broadcast was extremely vague), only an attempt robbery, further suggesting that any ‘victim’ who was shot would’ve been a suspect.
  9. LASD is still holding a scene at the location at this time.
  10. An ambulance was never called to the original location (clinic) at any point, only the hospital where the GSW patient was later found at.
