2 Crooks Evade Police On Foot After Wrong Way Pursuit | Chula Vista

09.13.2021 | 8:50 AM | CHULA VISTA – Police were called to a male seen beating a female inside a car somewhere on Bonita Rd. When a CVPD K-9 officer pulled up to the scene, the male driver fled with the female still inside and they went through the Bonita area, making their way to Hwy 54 at the Reo Dr intersection. With the officer in pursuit, the suspect went onto the eastbound Hwy 54 lanes going the wrong way. The officers followed but in the westbound lanes. A CVPD was able to stop the eastbound traffic and when the suspect saw a wall of vehicles in front of him, he pulled over onto the right-hand shoulder, and both he and the female ran off of the freeway into an area called “The Jungle” across from the Plaza Bonita Mall. A manhunt was conducted using the Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter, but the 2 people got away and the search was called off after approx 1 hour.
