150 Residents Displaced After Major Riverside Fire
At approximately 11:00 a.m. on May 29, 2026, Riverside firefighters responded to a major apartment fire in the 3900 block of Iowa Avenue near the University of California, Riverside.
Arriving crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the two-story apartment complex, prompting the incident to be upgraded to a third-alarm structure fire.
Firefighters from both Riverside and San Bernardino counties responded to assist as crews worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further through the building.
According to Riverside Fire Division Chief Greg White, the fire impacted 50 of the complex’s 112 apartment units and displaced an estimated 150 residents, many of them students attending UC Riverside.
Police officers and firefighters conducted evacuations throughout the complex, helping residents safely escape the burning building.
The American Red Cross was requested to assist displaced residents, while a temporary care and reception center was established at Bordwell Park.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
