14 Year Old killed While Trying To Flee Police

Pearland, TX — On August 28, 2024, at 9:50 P.M., A Pearland Police Department Officer was pursuing a vehicle in the 14000 Block of State Highway 288 Northbound. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as a 14-year-old male, lost control of the vehicle and collided with the center concrete barrier. Following the crash, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle fled on foot, running westbound across the main lanes of State Highway 288, including the HOV lane, towards the southbound lanes. Officers lost sight of the suspect as he fled the crash. Approximately 5 minutes after losing sight of the suspect, Pearland Dispatch received reports of an auto-pedestrian accident in the southbound lanes of State Highway 288. Officers responded to the scene and discovered that the individual who had fled the earlier crash had been struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the southbound lanes. Pearland Police Department Officers administered CPR at the scene, and the injured male was transported to Ben Taub Hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced deceased. This is an active investigation, and we urge anyone with information about this incident to contact Pearland Police Department at 281-997-4100.
