100 Officers Respond After Fight Erupts In South LA
A large Sunday night gathering in South Los Angeles turned chaotic after a confrontation with police triggered an LAPD help call and brought a massive law enforcement response.
At approximately 11:45 p.m. on August 3, 2026, a large group was gathered around the intersection of Avalon Boulevard and 51st Street, where people were drinking, smoking, dancing and spending the evening together.
According to information from the scene, one person became involved in a confrontation with LAPD officers before members of the surrounding crowd also became involved.
An LAPD help call was broadcast, prompting a large response from across the area. Approximately 100 officers eventually responded to the intersection to assist in bringing the situation under control.
Two people were taken into custody.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel also responded to evaluate a woman at the scene. Her condition was not immediately available.
The large emergency response temporarily disrupted bus service through the area.
No additional information regarding the arrests or what initially led to the confrontation was released at the scene.
