1 Dead, 2 Critical In I-17 Crash

LOCATION: NB I-17 North of Northern Ave
AREA/CITY: Phoenix
DETAILS:
- According to the DPS Metro Central District Sergeant on scene:
- There are 3 vehicles involved in the collision.
- One male was ejected from his vehicle during the crash and has been pronounced deceased on scene.
- A male and a female have been transported to a local trauma center in critical condition.
- An adult male is currently detained.
- The male is undergoing field sobriety tests and a blood draw in a DPS DUI mobile processing van on scene.
- Impairment is suspected but will not be confirmed until all tests are completed.
- The northbound I-17 is closed at Northern Avenue.
- Traffic is being diverted off of the interstate at Northern and can re-enter the interstate at Dunlap Avenue.
- DPS Vehicular Crimes Detectives are currently on scene investigating the incident.
- The closure is expected to last multiple hours.
